Uses of Ethanol

Alcoholic beverages, fuel additive for octane enhancement, solvent in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, solvent in cleaning agents, solvent in paints, antifreeze agent, and solvent for organic synthesis.

Material Properties

A clear, colorless liquid that evaporates easily with a mild, wine-like odor. It is miscible with water, chloroform, acetone, and ether. Produced through fermentation processes from sugarcane, corn, molasses, and other sources. Also synthetically produced from ethylene.
Serves as a precursor for ethyl acetate, pigments, and a variety of fine chemicals, including ethanolamine and diethyl ether.
